The making of a Sandbox

The Sandbox:
The house we are renting has a hottub pad in the back that the last tennant had filled with sand. The sand was dirty and the concrete of the pad is uncomfortable to sit on so we decided to turn it into a proper sandbox. The first step is to get the proper tools.

A Porter-Cable blade left 7.25" circular saw.

The second step was to select the wood. We chose pressure treated 2x4 for the header, and Redwood for the seat and inside walls. The seat is 1x12" and the walls are 1x10"

The next step is to cut the wood to the proper length and bevel the edges to 22.5 degrees to form an octagon. I set up the sawhorses and clamped a maple fence to the work to produce a straight cut for the matching edges.

My able assistant and I cut the wood with Clare helping with the clamps.

Here is the wood installed in the side of the concrete.

and the whole thing filled with sand and toys

Of course it looks better in use.

We also got this sun shade that we move around to wherever we happen to be. It really makes the sandbox enjoyable even on the hottest sunny days.
