Front of House
This is before the foundation was leveled

and the house was painted.

This is what it looks like now.

A bit of an improvement.

The Vital Stats:

Its in the center of a very nice block with a slow street and within walking distance of a nice park and playground.

House Updates

We have completed Phase one of the Kitchen and
Main Bathroom reclamation. Clare installed 1"
hex tile in the Bathroom and laid vinyl tile in
the kitchen. I installed the garbage disposal
stove and dishwasher in the kitchen and replumbed
the bathroom with Copper pipe. Then we installed
fir wainscotting in the bathroom and the pedestal
sink and clawfoot tub with shower. We still need
to finish the trim and painting in the bathroom
but everything was functioning in time for christmas.

We have been working on the landscaping and
planting. We planted flowers in the space between
the sidewalk and street and along the driveway.
We also added two raised beds in the back yard.
Our latest carpentry project was to replace the
stairs to the front porch. They were in pretty
bad shape. We used 2" thick Fir for the risers and
treads. They are pretty solid now. I will add some
pictures to the page soon.

Well, soon has long since past. Things have been busy.
We finally found a source for the 6" redwood lap siding
that we need to enclose the area around the rebuilt steps.
We have installed that as well as replacing the splintered
wood around the front door. (Broken by the departing
final tennants. The size of finished redwood has changed
in the last 90 years so we had to buy a 14' clear heart
2x8 and have it ripped and planed down to an original 1x6
(at 7.25 per foot, outch!). The door has never looked better
The painters are hard at work. They are sanding and priming
in anticipation that someday we will select a paint scheme.
There are little patches of various test colors around and
our neighbors have been dropping by to let us know their
favorites. Since I had to rebuild the two boxes by the
steps anyway clare convinced me to put hinged lids on them
they will make handy storage for garden supplies and tools.

Hah, Ill bet you thought I couldn't get this updated in sooner
than a year. ;) We finally settled on a paint scheme and had
the house painted. Note: if you are having an old house painted
make sure the contractor understands lead abatement.
We also had people come in and clean out the old concrete pads
in the back and do the hardscape front and rear. We have been
planting like fiends since they finished. We have planted some
trees in the back and smaller stuff in the front. We also upgraded
the electral service to a 200amp breaker box and added some
outlets in the basement for computers. Next project will be
garden lights and then the garage.

We also added some small decks for the kids to play on and
a concrete run for the dog. You can see the breaker box on
the left corner of the house. This shot is from before the
planting.
