The drive may have siezed up.
After you get the 1520 all torn apart, and you have the drive in your hand, you may want to try the following. (Remember it's useless as it is. If it breaks doing the following, it's no loss.)
first, hold it in your hand and spin it about it's wide side. (so that the platter inside may be forced to rotate. It's likely stuck in place.)
tap it lightly a few times, then give it a firm hit on the side, and spin it again. If you hear/feel the platters inside move, try again. If you can already, try again. If nothing here works, check the jumpers. You can find the CP3044 pinout guides easily by using google.

...
If that doesn't work, drop it on it's side from an inch above the ground to a hard surface. Keep trying until it works, stopping at about 3".

...
If THAT doesn't work, put it in the freezer (inside a ziploc) [yes. In the freezer] for a few hours. This may help shrink and un-stick the spindle.
...
If none of this works, feel free to do whatever you want to get the drive working. If it's not working now, it probably never will be again, but you may be lucky.

Also, you will probably not be able to put that disk in. The hard drive has to have it's connectors in a very specific spot, or it's no go.

: I have a Gridcase 1520 that used to work fine but it has been sitting idle for a couple of years. I tried to boot it up and it says there is no hard disk. It will boot fine from the A: drive on DOS 6.22 but nothing I have tried will get the machine to recognize the HDD. I have a 3.5" HDD that I could replace it with but I have no idea on how to get the case off.

: Any help with this problem will be appreciated.
